Why don't people fill in the profile section ?
Are they scared to say who they are, or is it just that they don't want to be known.
I often click on some one's name just to see who I'm talking too, but far to often it's blank.
Come on, be brave and fill it in.

There could be a number of reasons Jeff. So if I was to start from scratch, would I fill mine in knowing what I know now? No Definately Not.

Mine has everything but my inside leg measurement and weight.
31" and proud to be fat:eek:)
I would give my weight but the bathroom scales are not up to the job.

It's the same with my club's own forum board. Although everyone has to give their name and membership number to register, some still try to hide behind (and cause offence at times) silly names.

Loggerhead

Could be false details!
Area - Lancashire or Yorkshire (to keep the tykes happy) does narrow it down slightly to where you live.

I think It's just nice to have a small look at the person your talking too and it is just a small snap shot, some being more open than other's.
I can remember talking to John H about some topic which he was putting his view over and after clicking on his profile I new a small amount about him, mainly that he was very serious about fishing and Chub:)
Baz you are a legend and need not waste your time on this.
Wish more people would take the time too fill it in, after all we all like to voice our opinion.

Voicing our opinion.
The problem is Jeff that it makes it far to easy for the shithouses of this world to cause real problems for you. Usually under a pseudonym of their own.

You will notice that people who use a pseudonym have all the protection. Where as the person who wants to be up front and open has to be careful in what he says. And therefore he is limited in how truthfull he can be.

It's always the same Baz, a small minority causing problem's for everyone else.

I think, those of us who put their profiles up, should refuse to respond to posters, without profiles!

I rarely use my Nick name, it stems from my activist days against the antis when I used to write a column in the local press, I really didnt fancy having my identity known and having the locks on my house superglued, these days my Monk name has just kinda stuck, I no longer hide my identity and I think most people in specialist angling know who I am anyway. People have many different reasons for posting with false names, its not reasonable to critisize unless you are fully aware of those reasons.

I fully appreciate your reasons for not wanting you name to be universally known, Erastus Zacarias Bartholomew-Ironmonger...the 2nd.

I'm torn here Jeff.

I can fully understand why some people cannot let on who they are, I could write a list now, who cares though?

But,

They are not "Angling Gods"!!! They may have caught bigger or more fish than you, but at the end of the day............

Baz once told me "They are no better than you" fine words mate and very true, I will never forget that!

Joe Bloggs should fill in his/her profile if they have nothing to hide! As I have.

As jeff has said it would be nice to know a little about those who post, but each to there own. I could have used my nick name that has been with me since i was 10, none of you would have known me, but whats the point in that.

I came onto the forum to pick up tips, give some tips if possible, and a general chat. I have had a laugh, and hope i have made others laugh, yes some talk behind my back but i dont care, what goes around comes around.

Lets just carry on as it is, its the best fishing forum.

Perhaps some people need the anonymity of a pseudonym to post, a bit like having a drop of "Dutch Courage".

Mind you it doesn't always work in their favour. In a recent thread a poster was asking about some tackle no longer made, he has no name in his/her profile and the email disabled. I had got some of what they wanted and was going to offer it, but not publicly.

I think, that if you want to be part of a Society(that's what we are),and take the benefits of that Society, then you must join in,to reap the benefits of that Society.

After all, you just don't go into a pub, and start asking people questions, without telling them who you are...do you?
