paid my brother in law a visit lastnight as he was night fishing for barbel on the trent with a couple of mates.
i decided to take a rod along and have a cast about while having a beer n a chat.
it was the first time id cast a bait into a river for anything other than pike, but i fancied a crack at a barbel!
and id not had a fishing trip since july last year due to a car accident.
unfortunately i didnt catch a barbel but i did catch my first double figure carp, a nice common at just over 10lb, then i caught a very nice bream (biggest ive caught) then i hooked into a lovely chub also the biggest i've caught. not a bad few hours thats for sure.
and the awesome thing was every fish was in beautiful condition, no marks, damaged fins, anything! they were in pristine condition.
brother in law had a great night, 5 barbel, 5 chub and a few bream to 6.5lb.
all in all an awesome experience.
i'll definately be heading back there when i get a bivvy lol
it proved to me that rivers seem to hold far better quality fish than the still waters i usually fish on
