Fisherman dies in river accident A 26-year-old man has died while fishing in a Lancashire river.

Emergency services were called to the River Ribble at Penwortham on Sunday night following reports that two men were in the water.

Police said two Polish men were fishing in the river but had got caught out by the rising water just before 2300 BST.

They had swum to the bank but one of them had slipped. A body was later pulled out by firefighters when the tide receded. An inquiry is under way.

The dead man, who is believed to have been from the Blackpool area, has yet to be formally identified. just a small question wot where three people doing in the river at 2300 hrs

There were only two,see Wols post.

Simple really, by the looks of itthey were on a stretch of river,('fishing'?) and didn't allow for the tide.

Bit like the cockle pickers at Morecombe Bay.

While they were checking the Ribble reports on FM, they should have asked the tide times
