Hi. I'm looking for afeeder rodor a float rod thats covers everything from roach to 20lb carp. A cork handle would be nice so would a screw seat.

I'll have a shimano catana 4000 RA to put on it. If this reel is no good fora feederrod what about a float rod to cover the same fishing.

I only have about £50 to spend on one.

Thanks for any help.

Thats a tall order especially at that price.

Something that could tame a big carp would be overgunned for using with small hooks and light lines for roach.

At a pinch you would be looking at a stepped up float rod designed for commercials with a progressive action.I could not advise as to a particular rod though.

Thats a big ask mate, I'd go for a twin tip avon/quiver, I think some of these can be picked up for £50-ish.

Agree with Nigel about the float rod, although a stepped up float rod won't be as good for catching small roach as with itbeing a bit more powerful there is always the chance you will bump off a lot of fish.

Thanks for the help guys. I dont know what I'm talking about when it comes to avon/quiver/float/feeder rods. Hence the daft question. I'm just a carp man that leaves 2 rods on a rod pod and waits lol.

We have 3 lakes next to each other at our club and I've always fished the big lake. Last week I went on one of the smaller lakes and caught some roach and some small carp on a OLD feeder rod and an old float rod. Must admit it was good fun and looking foward to doing it again. All I want is some updated gear for that sort of fishing and dont know what to look for.

Maybe just look for a standard medium feeder rod mate if you are targetting smaller fish. Look at the different reviews here, and also here.

There's loads for around the £50 mark, if you visit the shops advertisedon the top left of the page they often have older models reduced, so you might pick something up for even less.

Perhaps a multi-length rod like the Leeda Blue Diamond or similair would do the job. I have recently bought one for ?29.50
off Ebay.
The rod is un-used, it still has the plastic covering on the butt section.
A friend has one and is very happy using it at all length combinations (15/18/20ft). He regularly takes carp 10lb plus with a feeder, and also uses it trotting on a 20ft deep river without problems.

for 50 quid why not take a chance on ebay, you could get a better 2nd hand rod for your money.i got 2 drennan tench flt rods last year in tip top condition, they would handle a good carp but 20 pound is a bit of a strech. other wise try for a beefed up barbel/avon

Thanks for all the help guys.

Gerry. Great minds think alike. I got a brand new Shimano Catana AX Medium Feeder off ebay £31.84 delivered (when it arrives). Also got a new Shimano Catana 4000RA match/Feeder Reel for £19.00 to go with it.

Now I'm on the lookout for a nice float rod for roach, tench and small carp????????....... Anyone!!

Bit late now/forum/smilies/embarassed_smiley.gif, but I was speaking to someone the other day who had a catana 4000.

After his 1st session he reckoned the clutch was totalrubbish and was already thinking of swapping for a better model.

Might have been a mayalisian made one though as I undertand they've had problems with these!

With regards to rods, take a look at the Maver range as I've only heard good stuff about these. Dad has one and loves it.
