Hi All

If there was only one rod you would take to go fishing to cover all aspects of UK coarse fishing what would you take?

I'm asking this as I'm currently going through a mid fishing life crisis.

Over the last 20 years I've gone from pleasure to match to carp angling, and am now wondering why all the need for the really powerful rods when I remember my pole and float rods caught me a fair few decent specimens.

I don't throw out huge distances and I don't use large weights (1.5oz heaviest).

I'm thinking of the old John Wilson Go Fishing series were he seemed to use an Avon rod for everything.

What would your thoughts/experiences be?

Thanks in Advance

I'd say 2 rods would be best. A carp match rod and an avon ros. The Shimano beastmaster classic is towards the lighter end of the avon range and makes a good light all-rounder.

Thanks for the replies so far.

I should have said before I use Chimera No 2's for all my Carp work.

I Also own a Chimera Avon 11 footer and really wondered if between the 3 rods I should be able to cover all my UK fishing.

I have just read about the FM concept rod which seems to be a good all rounder from the comments and praise owners have posted.

Hopefully I've got my combination right - this time!

Why should I be the only one to take every rod I ever owned whenever I nip down the local river for 2-3 hours; take the lot...and finish up with chronic back problems like me.

Seriously the rod I used most, from roach to chub/ barbel, was my GP 1lb - 02oz Special Quiver, (put over quivers with a seperate end ring) sadly now damaged beyond repair.

I'm looking at a Greys specialist which is a twin tip rod - One at 1.25lb and one at 1.75lb . By all accounts its a great rod.....but doesn't have a quiver section .

Hi Andy,

The 'JohnWilson Signature Avon Quiver' a fantastic allround rod.

1.25lb TC, 2 tops, a split butt and extention so as can be used at 11ft or 13ft, 3 quivers 1.5/2.0/2.5oz, reel line to 8lb and a 5yr warrenty. How much more versatility do you need? And all for under £70. An absolutebargain.

Looking at the above specs, andi have convinced myself how good this rod is.....im off to get one.
