Barry Unwin's Dad, dear old Colonel Unwin, was a character. I met him in the last remaining tackleshop, Goffara's, once the Hardy's agent for Kashmir, in Srinagar in the summer of 1980. He was in India on a feather-buying business trip for his Kenyan fly-tying operation and, at the time I met him, trying to get the very canny Mr Goffara to part with an old Hardy reel that a departing Brit had sold him in 1947 or so. I had another great old colonial relic with me that morning, Colonel John Wakefield - former tiger-hunter turned big-time wildlife conservationist, married a Maharajah's daughter, served with distinction in Burma etc etc - a great pal. It was fascinating to just stand there and listen to those two - three, Mr Goffara was also a mine of information - amazing elderly gentlemen reminisce and talk.
