Does any one have a suggestion for a pair of Avon /specialist style rods,1.5lb-1.75lb t/cthat are 12ft 2 piece.

They would be used for allround fishing( within reason), both rivers and small still waters. i have a pair ofAvon rods which are fine, but at times feel a little light. I would like to buy, a one off pair, that would last me, to be able to fish for barbel, light carping, tench and bream etc, they would be teamed with Shimano Stradic 4000's. I have looked at the Harrison Chimera no2/Peregrine stepped up Avon, but although excellent these arelikely to beover my budget, if anyone has any idea's please help. many thanks G.Morris

You could do a lot worse than a pair of these, but your best bet is to visit a large tackle dealer and see which ones feel right to you.

I use a pair of fox barbel duo xs 1.75 tc and have had no problems with them for barbel and light / close range carping.

I agree with Graham. The Korum Quivers are superb tools & more than ideal for what you say you want them for. If you don't need quiver tip sections, then the Korum Twin Tips are very good as well. I have both sets of rods and at 1.75lb the only way you can tell the difference between them is the amount of rings on them (the Quiver has more), but with the 2.2lb tc section of the Twin Tips, you have the perfect light carp/zander rod.

Hi Guy, for not much more than you will payin the shops for the higher end rodsyou could get somebuilt to your ownspec. If you do go downthe hand built routeI couldn't recommend Dave Lumb more. He built me a Chimera #2 in July and what a job he did. I asked him if he could build the rod to the same spec as a Chimera #3 I got last season. Hehadn't even see the rod in question,he only had a few photos and my description to work with but the rod turned out almost identical to the C3 bar a few slight differences. Guydon't waste your money on imported rods if it's something youwant to cherish and last a long time, get a English bloke too build them for you on English blanks. This is the link to the rod section onDave's site Dave Lumb Specialist Tackle. Be aware though, Dave doesn't rush his rods....Good Luck.

Guy , check out the Greys range of Prodigy rods . They produce two rods , both with twin tips although neither has a quiver tip . I've seen them both for sale on T'internet at £99:99

The Specialist has two tips- 1.25 and 1.75 = Greys specialist

The specimen has two tips- 1.2 and 2.0 = Greys specimen

I have just bought a Daiwa 12ft 'Infinity Barbel'...

After a 7 break from serious 'barbeling' and fishing full stop due to kids...

I started again last week, and two days ago I hit my PB carp record (A 17lbs 7oz Common)

I caught it on the 'Infinity' and I have to say, that I will be getting anothe one of these beautiesnext month to replace my old Daiwa 'Powermesh Specialist Avon' (Which is still a very good rod really. But I guess that in 7 yrs barbel rods have come on a little bit)

There are not many reviews for this awesome rod, which is surprising.. It is pricey (RRP of £199) but you can pick them up from (£140+) ....

I use it with a Fox stratos7000reel... (perfect for the barbel and 20-30lb carp)

Enjoy...
