After years of 'getting by' in cold winter weather with multiple layers, I have finally decided to invest in a specialist winter 'suit' (jacket, bib & bracesetc).

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Budget is up to 100 quid. I want something that will last a few seasons.

Don't think you'll get an Igloo for a oner Woz! They are the best by a mile though.

****y, I've just got a sundridge bracken fishtail and bib n brace, which you can getwithin your budget from J&K tackle, not as warm as the Igloo, but I'd argue that at times wearing the Igloo was a little bit OTT in that it often wasn't cold enough to justify using the fleece, especially with the warmer weather.

In all truth though, had I not been on a budget I'd have bought another Igloo without doubt, my last one only recently died after about 7 years!

In really cold weatherthe Igloo combined with the sleepskin is unbeatable.

If youare fishing static and its above 4C or you are fishing mobile theBracken combined with sleepskin is great.

The other great thing with both suits is they really will keep the rain out.

The Bracken aint really a winter suit though, pretty light weight, use mine during the wetter summer months. Igloo for the winter.

Don't spend too long searching for J&K guys, I have a day off tomorrow (finally after two weeks), and only live 20miles from Bicester, I'll pay them a visit and haggle in person.

Judging by the reviews and your advice, I think I may well go for Igloo, it's not much more expensive than the Bracken combo andseven years wear (nice updated reviewEddie) is enough to justify the price tag. Thank you all

Of course if anyone knows a budget version with the same level of icy protection... I am a cheapskate at heart /forum/smilies/wink_smiley.gif

How do you go on with the igloo when you havea fair walk to your swim? I go for the layering approach myself clothing that has a good wicking &doesn't weight much so I can put it in my rucksack. Last Winter I got a Sleeka Snugpack jacket, brilliant bit of kit. It has it's own stuff sack and weighs in at 600g. It'sthermal properties are something else. I was going to get thesalopets this year but I found the NATO issue version of thetrousers on ebay, un-issued for £15 with stuff sack,so I'm gonna give them a whirl. They ain't water proof but a breathable top layer takes care of that.

In winter I wear me mams donkey jacket that she used on her coal round. To keep me bum warm, I wear some of me auntie Kathleen's old tights under me kegs, gotta be a bit quick to get them mind you. In winter she makes suet pudding and boils the things up in them. Saves washing them I suppose.

Foot wear!....We got a new 60" plasma telly, so I carved some huge thermal boots out of the packing and painted them green...they could well be a life saver if I fall in the drink!
