I've seen this set up before but never tried it till yesterday - basically the hook (eyed) tied on to the line in a small loop, using the figure of eight knot (well that what I used)
I was told by an angler that tying the hook like this reduces the number of missed bites.
Not sure if it did or not but it certainly caught

Anyone else used/use this?

I have used it, didn't seem to make any difference to my outstanding catch rate.

I have come to the conclusion that when the fish are feeding at the same time as am fishing I catch. If the fish aren't feeding when I'm fishing I don't catch. If the fish are feeding and I am not fishing I don't catch. If the fish aren't feeding and I'm not fishing I don't catch.

The way I tie my hook on does not seem to matter.
