Heard on the radio that Tesco's are going to do the same as Eddie Storbart and start to transport its goods via the waterways.

They say it is to be more green.

More green more profit, wonder if they will buy their boats on a buy one get one free basis.

Well that solves the problem of forgotton tucker on the banks.

Forgotton baits, sweet corn and luncheon.

The carp alds will never run out of beer again. Wouldn't like the boat to moar up in my swim though.

I think it will only be non-perishables they carry by water. Interesting documentary on Radio 4 a while back about this. Apparently, the big difficulty is that, while many canals and navigable waterways are in good shape and transport concerns are interested in using them because carrying goods by water is potentially cheap, access is difficult - many old wharves have been sold off as waterside des. res. appartments, etc. This is especially a problem in cities, where the pressure for accomodation is particularly intense and where, of course most goods need to be delivered to.
