Current River Levels

Does anyone know of any up to date websites that show current river levels? I don't really want to resort to a stillwater.

Matt, from what I remember there is no one website. The EA, via local reporting does give information (I think) and there is info on other sites, but no silver bullet I suspect.

Phil H probably has a better idea.......

yes the ea keep up to date water rises and falls temperature etc. Will try to locate it for you.

Ribble was fine last night about 50 cm up and a bit of colour. Fish were feeding as well!/forum/smilies/big_smile_smiley.gif

Hi Steve, I regularly check BFW in the hope of finding the current river levels.

I have a few days off and it seems the rivers are all out of sorts (unless I fancied barbel fishing). I want some grayling, dace or chub fishing!

Trent system dropping yesterday Matt, as was Yorks I think.

I had a load of Grayling on tuesday when the river was well up and coloured, too tricky for specialist though maybe./forum/smilies/smile_smiley.gif

Cakey, I was looking at having a crack on the Lea this weekend but the extra water ruined that.

Tony, were you at the usual grayling stretch?

Does anyone know how the Swale or Ure are?

Not sure of the Swale Matt, although I may go chubbing there this Friday, the Nidd is hardly up at all, certainly more colour than last week when it was low and gin clear.

No Matt, top secret, very exclusive bit of river. Swordsy will tell you if you ask him.

I though the "usual" grayling stretch was a perch haven these days.

Tony, I wouldn't know about the perch. I have had them to just under 2lb while trotting maggots for the ladies but I only made it up there just the once last winter. I plan to fish the Yorkshire rivers more this winter.

I've not found anything better than Riverline. The only problem is that you have to use it over several days and it doesn't tell you how coloured the river is. By the way I lost a real biggie on the Swale last weekend - hook pulled. /forum/smilies/crying_smiley.gif

There are more than enough on here who like to write about how to do this and how to do that without me joining in.

In my opinion most of it is utter rubbish and I wouldnt want to addmore crap to it. You never really learn anything by reading what other folks do I dont think, only by doing yourself, everyone has a different way that suits.

I am more than happy to tell anyone what I know, if anything,of particular venues though if they mail me.

I did once send Graham a tale about poaching but I think he wrapped his chips in it.

BUT!

I still think it would be grand if you did a profile write up and popped a bit of stuff in.

Sean, I will let you know what condition the Swale is in when I get home.

PS. for anybody new to the site who wants totally improve their knowledge on how to fish the Swale for barbel or break out of just chucking a feeder out and hoping for the best, please refer to Sean's articles on the subject. They are most excellent!

Surely there are enough posters on here covering all the English rivers to give a daily update on river levels and conditions, at the very least every 48 hours. It would require a page of its own obviously but the committment would have to be there before setting this up.

There is, or always used to be, a phone line for the Severn, Trent and Warks Avon river levels updated twice daily but I am damned if I can find it on the web. If anyone wants to know the river levels of the river Wye then ring 01432 272683 and this will state river levels at Hereford old bridge and this also is updated every day.Thealternative solution is to ring a local tackle shop in the area you wish to fish and they usually have a good idea of the state of the local river or rivers, Iring Stan Lewis at Bewdley forthe middle Severn, Allens at Worcs for the lower Severn and Temeand get tip top info and I do likewise by ringing the tackle box in Evesham if I am in doubt about the Avon.
