Recently started using a monopod in low light condotions typical of this time of the year, much easier to carry about than a tripod and I`m quite pleased with the results I getting.

Just for winter and low light photography, I like the Manfrotto range, £35 buys an excellent one, although i do have a cheap tripod were the middle section becomes a monpod and can be removed

Have a Jessops Atlantic TP5. Great bit of kit but does have some weight to it compaired to the tripods I have.

If you're a real cheapskate, you can avoid even the expense of a monopod; the old trick is to get some string and tie a loop in it long enough go - when you are in 'taking picture' pose - over the tops of both arms and then under both feet, legs spread apart (ere, no missus, not a titter). Basically you use the taut loop of cord to brace your arms. It does work, kind of.
