Oh Boy! This is so difficult.

What type of rod are you using? What weight of lures?

take a look at this for some tips, yours may not have magnetic control.

Keep the swing of the rod nice and even, don't flick the tip. Start short and lengthen it as you get the hang of it.

Above anything else, you have to develop an educated thumb.

I have a selection of ABU reels - 2x 6500, 5600, 7000, 10000. I have noticed the drag washers are always contaminated with lube during their annaul OH. The drag is a little erratic when first used after that nice and smooth. I have to press the felt washers between absorbant paper to dry them as much as possible. Is there a more permanent solution, or is moist drag washers the norm? The casting technique is different to a fixed spool, I usually aim to a spot 12.00 above the location I aiming for and immediatly thumb brake when the lure hits the water. Casting into the wind is nearly as difficult as flyfishing into the wind, it requires both practice and concentration, err on any of them and you'll have a birds nest. Each lure of a significant weight and shape requires tweeking of the spool bearing, small differences can be adjusted using the mags.
