To all you caring Winter fishermen out there.....................

When youv'e finished your days spell on the bank,or even while your'e fishing, please try to remember the birds and the fact that at this time of year they struggle to find food to keep them going.

Even if you just scatter a few bits of bread, seed, soft boilies, sweetcorn casters etc etc around you on the bank or as you leave it will help no end,not to mention the pleasure of trying to get a robin to feeed from the hand!!

I have several feeders in my garden to attract them and they give much pleasure during the times when I cannot get to the bank and when Iv'e seen all the fishing videos for the 100th time and I try to think about them whenI have run out of hot drinkand heading home that they will still be out in the cold............

Please do your best.....................Thanks,Tee-Cee(RSPB)and fisherman.

Rats, magpies ,Grey Squirrels, all sworn enemies of our native songbird population, this is typical RSPB bo££ocks, don't they know our birds have existed for thousands of years without anglers bait./forum/smilies/angry_smiley.gif

We were doing this long before the feather brains from RSPB. As anglers we are more in tune with nature and the seasons so don't try teaching your gran to suck eggs sonny.

Mind you having fed the ducks all year it's our turn and there's nothing better for duck than orange sauce (only joking)

I was fishing a local river last week about half a mile dowstream of the car park. Hanging in a Hawthorn bush was a plastic bird feeder. What attracted my attention whilst fishing was a Spotted Wood Pecker feeding on it. In the car park area there were 3 more feeders hanging in a bush.

I have these two little ducks at the hotel and have started taking them a bit of bread now and then. They're a right manky pair of mallards, but they follow me wherever I walk. I go to change lures and one has his head in my lure box, wondering what I'm going to choose next.

Does he advise me?

That's all the thanks you get!

If I fish with static bait for the barbel, they sit by my chair.

I'm fattening them up now for Christmas, but to be honest, it might be a fight as to who gets them between me and the chefs down there.

.

We used to have 6 white geese as well, but in 2001 one of them disappeared just around the time of the staff Christmas lunch. Same happened again the year after and I thought that it was strange that if they were dying they were doing so at the same time each year. Well last year, the last one went and that's why I will have these bl**dy ducks before they do.

I actually have holes cut out in the back of most of my bivvy`s with flaps shown on these are for wildlife photography when I`m fishing long stay, I usually set up a bird feeding area at the back of the bivvy, when i`m in France or overseas, I often buy bird feeders and set up small feeding stations, it really is amazing what you see

There is nothing more annoying to anglers, than swans that have become accustomed to been fed.

These stupid people think they are doing good by feeding them bread.

The swans become use to been fed, then they pick up a baited hook and we get the blame.

I'm happy to chuck the odd maggot to a robin but that's about as for as it goes....

Steve soak the bread in night nurse, the swans will sleep it off, no problem

two or three places i fish there are litlle robins come down to get there maggots. Its so nice on a day when there is not a soul about to talk to and your not catching , to have a little friend to hold a conversation with. it breaks up the day and keeps you company. I think its wonderfull. There is one lady on our club water that regularly well twice a day in fact , comes and feeds the ducks and swans with corn and bread. Must cost her a fortune. But having said its a nice thing to do ,we are plagued with rats. I sat there a few weeks ago and there was a family of rats about 3 feet away, mum dad and fivebabies. While i,m not frightened by this as if you dont bother them they wont bother you. But still very unhygenic in more ways than one.But i guess we'll have to live with it .Unless the ea employ a waterways rat catcher. ( highly unlikely) .

Well done, Bob.

A lot of people don't carry hand cleaner. They have their hands in the water, mix groundbait wit lake water and then eat sandwiches without washing their hands with a proprietory cleaner. Then ethye wonder why they nearly die in hospital or spend 4 weeks recuperating.

Asda's hand cleaner costs just 59p for a little bottle and can save your life.

During the winter of 97 it was so cold that there was no lakes open, frozen over, and no grass to be seen

Many of us went down to the local lake to feed the swans with - iceberg lettuce and oatmeal. Oh boy were we popular. It was just a couple of swans with a cygnet and they had names as well, Berty (BTY) and Mary (M35), but the young one hadn't been christened.

Berty was very popular on the lake and often he would have his head in your groundbait bucket whilst you were still mixing it.

"are you aware ofLeptospirosis(Weil's disease)?"

Homo sapien also carries a very nasty disease called AIDS, but we take precautions against such things of course and rats have been around a lot longer that we have, respect for all wildlife and some of us life to combined nature watching with fishing of course, all we need do is act sensibly and be aware of our impact on the environment

Pity the Cormorants dont have a problem finding fish on our inland waters, maybe we should feed them Cod from all the fishfingers and fish products that adorn our local supermarket shelves.

I used to work for a transport company that specialised in delivering chilled food, there were three massive skips that food got emptied into if it wasnt delivered in time and broke the chill chain. One day there was nearly half a skip of fish still in the polystyrene boxes thrown away and I wasnt allowed to touch any of it, not even for bait.
