I weight nothing in kilos

the standard measurements are

ounze, pounds and stones

for distance inches , feet and miles

let those jonny foreign types measrure in what they want but I'm English and will use English ways of measurement

One of my local clubs started using metric scales about 30 years ago. After the weigh-in quite a few came up to me because I could convert their weight in my head. I think they went back to imperial when the scales needed replacing.

Not many people realise it but our imperial measures were changed very slightly in about 1960 to make them metric! The inch used to be something like 25.399mm but changed to exactly 25.4mm and something similar happened to the pound weight.

Just think - all those 'magic' barriers would have to change! Instead of 2lb roach it would be 1kg or 5lb chub would become 2.5kg etc.

I`ll stick with the traditional lbs & ozs because those are the weights I think in. I`m quite capable of roughly converting between imperial and metric and vice-versa but if I`m given a metric measurement I generally do a quick mental conversion to clarify it in my head.

Will you be wanting us to drink litres in the pub too Steph?

got to be imperial mesurements i still upset builders merchants by asking for every thing in feet and inches and also i think its dumbed the population down now every thing is in 10's and hundreds before we had to know fractions as well as mental arithmatic to work out weights and measures
