Put a small pellet band around a split shot of the required size so the band sits in the shot "opening" and around the back of the shot. Close the shot a bit to hold the band but not cut it. Now pass the hook between the band and the back of the split shot. Cheap, easy, reusable, and most of all simples!

I used this for a long time, Take an old nut (no, not me) and wind a piece of copper wire around it to form a small loop. Then superglue a small disc of cork from an old wine bottle to it. I used to dab a bit of nail varnish over the end of the copper wire to stop any sharp bit showing as well---Your idea is better but, for something a bit heavier this may suit.
