I'm off out for a little session early tomorrow morning after the elusive tench (again) and bought myself some white maggots this afternoon. Only a pint in a two pint bait box.
La Señora Maceo takes noisy and aggressive exception to keeping maggots in the fridge, so I put them in a shady corner outside and hoped for the best.
Just been out to get them and as soon as I picked up the box I noticed it was pretty warm on the bottom. When I opened the lid, the maggots have stopped moving. There's no sign of life at all, despite stirring them up with my finger. Nothing at all. They haven't started to change into casters as far as I can see - there aren't any chrysalis in there. They're just lying there flaked out and apparently dead.
I've sneaked them into the fridge about 10 mins ago (risking severe marital discord!) but is it likely to be too late? Have they died of heat stroke? Are they on the turn?
Has anyone else experienced this?
If they're "brown bread" will they still work tomorrow? I'm going too early to be able to buy any more.
Any advice welcome! Thanks in advance...
