On one of the farms I go fishing on the farmer hangs dead cormorants in the trees,

I asked him if it was to discourage other cormorants. His reply was ' no, if you get a good stiff breeze they help to keep your eye in until a live one arrives'

A couple of years ago I watched a cormorant battling with an eel in Weymouth harbour that must have been at least 2 feet long. Every time the eel wriggled free the cormorant dived down to fetch it back up. I was in a rush so had to go and didn't see who won the fight in the end. Looking at these pictures, I guess it must have been the bird!

Peter many years ago I also saw a cormorant with a big eel (when there were eels). The cormorant had the head plus a bit down its throat and the eel had a turn round the birds neck. He eventually let go the eel and when it swam off went after it . Never saw the outcome but I like to think the eel won.

A 5lb chub has no chance either, I've seen it happen!

Thevermin couldn't take offand it went to vermin heaven 500 yards down the river!

Not me! It was an angry Bailiff who hadn't filled his quota for the month.
