Hi, a couple of friends and I would like to fish the Hampshire Avon but aren't keen on pay the high prices most of the fisheries want to charge. Does anyone know of any free stretches of the Avon that you can fish?

The only 'free' stretch that I aware of is in Amesbury, its called Lord's Walk and is free fishnig between the bridges, so just about enough room for 3 to 4 anglers I'd say. Above and below the bridges though are privare areas.

Expect to catch Grayling, Trout and a few Roach; the better Roach are caught in the Winter though. Maggot or sweet corn and/or Bread baits do best.

Otherwise you can get day tickets for quite a few stretches, and not exaclty over-priced either; tickets from Ringwood Angling and AvonAngiling shops.

You're welcome.

b.t.w. it can get pretty shallow there in the Summer months, but thankfully not a problem at the moment.

When were you thinking of going?
