Excellent article Wurzel (especially as you mentioned me!).
Personally I don't belong to any formal group apart from the ACA. I don't have anything against them, it's just that I don't like to be pigeon holed to one species.
I do like informal groups, which is why I like this site so much. It's more like friends having a chat. And getting the views of the everyday angler rather than the 'names' is very refreshing. It also enables you put something back by helping others.
Although I like to fish on my own most of the time, like most people I like to share my successes, and also my failures if it helps me not to repeat them. Groups definitely help with this.

BCSG aint that a name for the carp study group?
I used to belong to the carp society personally I thought it was a waste of money.too much advertisment in the mag but i also realise they have to have a lot of adverts to raise funds.
do all the other groups work on the same principle?

Mark, you are of course right BCSG is also a carp group but Stuart (Sedge) is talking about the Black country specimen group, he just can't spell it, do you think the other BCSG will sue him ? i say him because he is the chairparson!! i have his address if their solicitors need it. (small fee involved)
