Mill Lane and Badshot Lea

I've tried putting this in general fishing without any replies, so apologies if you've read this before...

I've been thinking about joining Farnham AS but am quite concerned about stories from forums on other fishing sites regarding the work that has been done to Mill Lane and Badshot Lea.

I had heard only good things about the club, how it was well run with a good mix of Carp and match/pleasure waters. However, just as I was about to get the cheque book out, there have been rumblings about Mill Lane being flattened and Badshot Lea going the same way. I understand that the reason for this is to build up the banks to prevent fish losses when flash floods occur. If this is the case, then fair enough. If it means that the long term welfare of the fisheries are guaranteed, then waiting a few years for the bankside vegetation to grow back will we worthwhile (hopefully with a well managed planting programme in place).

The problem from my point of view is that there is no information on the FAS website concerning these works and no guarantee that the lakes will be returned to their former glory. Is there anyone out there who can assure me that I will not be fishing featureless holes in the ground for years to come if I do join FAS? Bearing in mind that my name is on this thread, please be assured that this is a serious question and not an hysterical rant.

Hi Andy please do not read to much into some people ranting on the web. Important work had to be done for many reasons. Saftey, fish care, conservation and flood defenses.

Both lakes are still very natural with lots of trees shrubs and genneral greenary, Yes a lot of work has been done but nature has a habit of quickly coming back to how it was.

The work has allowed better access on some areas, safer fishing in others and a raft of positive fish welfare in other areas.

FAS still has a huge number of waters to suit every angler and works tirelesy to ensure these waters are enjoyed by there members.

I am sure you would never regret spending the small amount of monies the membership fee is.

If you are still unsure I can take you around these lakes and show you so you can get a real personal impression of these venues.

Hi Ian - many thanks for your informative and reassuring reply. What you say regarding nature quickly returning the environment back to how it was is the bit I wanted to hear. As I said originally, what concerned me was whether the trees were going to be allowed to grow back. It sounds like they are which is very good news.

I think what you have is enough to put our worries to rest. Thanks for your help and we look forward to seeing you on the bank!
