Never managed to catch one, despite a couple of trips to the Kennet about 15 years ago

Where is there a half decent chance of getting into one in the Essex/Herts area please chaps?

Cheers

Hi, without joining a club you may struggle to find a good river venue.
There are a few lakes around your specified area which hold barbel...

Any suggestions for a club please?

Graham E. has the answers above.
River Ivel. Milton Keynes ticket.
River Colne. Uxbridge Rovers, North Harrow Waltonians, Gerrards Cross. all have excellent barbel fishing.
River Lea. Verulam AC.
Not too far to the Thames either..
These are a few to consider, but there's probably quite a few more...
