I'm loooking to get my son (10) a quiver tip rod for general coarse fishing.

It will be used mainly on still waters (or small/slow rivers in the future) for fish such as roach, skimmers, small tench, perch etc and capable of casting small groundbait feeders.

At the moment he's using a 7.5ft wand that just hasn't got the length to pick up line quickly or clear margin weed.

I'm looking to spend say £30 max on a rod 10-12ft.

Any suggestions would be appreciated?

The 10 ft one was what I went for Matt

I think the tips are 1/2 oz, 3/4 oz, 1oz and 2oz off hand - I've only used the lightest tip so far for fishing on a small still water in the coldest of conditions for silver fish using a maggot feeder - but did land a bouns carp of about 3 - 4 lb on 3lbmain line - 2lb hook link

Matt,

Depending on his height and build, then maybe an 11 footer might be better for him?

Not too unwieldy at 11 feet and a lot less tangles and problems than with a 12 footer.

Matt - the Zensorflex 11ft Twin Top Feeder rod might be worth a look.

A good, alroundpackage for £25.

Matt,

I brought my lad a John Wilson 'Primal' ten foot quiver tip rod (3 tips).

Cracking little rod that bends from tip to butt.

Only payed around £25 from my local tackle shop.

We've had some fun Chub fishing with it........

Sadly, I've had a Google around and it doesn't seem to be readily available any more, but there might be old stock around.
