The Drennan mark 4 tench rod and the **** walker mark 4 rod are iconic rods , but what rods from today will become iconic
Preston excel float rod may be one

No mention of H's there Sam
As a cyclist I only use travel rods, so the only travel rod that I would call iconic
is the John Wilson Avon Quiver.
I don't think I've heard a bad word against it {versatile, light, reliable and affordable).

I would agree with the Taperflash being an iconic rod, and add to the split cane rods the Wallis Wizard and the Super Wizard too.
I'd also add the Carbotec F.A.S.T. rods as well, not only due to their exceptional price tags but because they were the first commercially available 'carbonactive' rods' that didn't lock-up when playing a fish.
I guess it is difficult to differentiate between iconic and cult though.
Peter, for something very different did you know that B James & son also made a Kennet Perfection fly rod?

Iconic modern rods?
Shimano Technium Specialist, Drennan Tench Floats, Drennan Big Feeder and IM8 Superfeeder, John Wilson Avon Quiver and loads more I can't remember.
Iconic they may be but its still doesn't mean they are good rods. Everybody has their own ideas on what constitutes a good rod.
It may not be the cool thing to do, but I would put a vote in for the original JW Avon.
