Hi - has anyone got specific tackle insurance above what they get with their home insurance? Does it cover tackle left in cars and night fishing? Any recommendations?

I have seen E and L online and read that Tackleguard have closed...

Cheers

Just taken out a new buildings and contents policy and added £5,000 for personal possessions away from home which covers sports goods and valuables. Any one item covered for upto £2000, and max cover of £1000 for theft from an unattended vehicle.

John make sure you read a policy document for the small print before committing to anything, any reputable company will either supply you with a copy or it will be available on the web.

Les in my humble opinion Saga give very good cover but it don't half come at a premium, at least in my area.

Very apt, i've just been reading on another forum of how an angler in Northampton has just had £7000s worth of gear stolen from his garage !!!

I have mine covered on household insurance, with a seperate "sports equipment" policy. I tend to keep the smelly stuff, like bags, nets, bait etc in my shed and the rods and reels live under the stairs.

Least any scum won't get it all if they have a go at the shed.

Be careful with cover for tackle in the car. Sometimes they insist on it being locked in the boot. Not great for rods. Also estate cars and SUVs don't have secured boots as seats can be folded down from inside and the soft covers over the boot area aren't considered strong enough by some insurers.

Cheers Julian
