Has anyone used pellet waggler rods for perch fishing? Was thinking about the korum cs 11ft float. Will be using them on light bobbling style. chucking oz leads and small live baits. Would they be suitable? Im currently using my old avon rods but are looking a bit worse for wear. Any advice welcome.

Many thanks

Any half decent rod will do for perch, lets face it they don't fight like tarpon.

Am aware of this but as most of my fishing time is spend chasing specimen perch. I like the have to kit, that is best suited to the job. Maybe slightly tarty as well but no shame in my eyes with that.

I have a Daiwa Spectron ''pellet waggler'' and use it for allsorts of fishing it just has a nice action and I love it...Great for canal fishing for big Perch :)

By the way, the Korum rods are superb for the Money, after all they are made by Preston, my all time favourite rods....Just keep well away from anything by Dragon carp, hey lads ;)

Good question, I have been the same route with a middy white knuckle and it works very well, it struggles just a little in the casting department but will cope with anything that swims, including the inevitable pike.
Not sure about Tiggers perch not fighting comment though.

Obviously they fight but even specimens are not a fish known for a long hard fight and although the lightest of match rods will bend a bit it will land one with ease. I used to use a normark microlite on a local canal (next to a lilly bed) and had lots of perch to 4lb. I found a soft rod helped stop hook pulls, or should I say mouth tears. Perch have soft mouths/membrains and ripp very easily. Jmo of course.

Thanks for that, think I'll go for the korum's. Only 50 a piece and look a really good quality rod. Hopefully my elusive 5lb will christen the new rods

I agree that a perch will tire quickly but some of the larger perch I have caught from rivers certainly pull a bit, 6 or 8lb line and a 6 or 8 hook is my normal set up,usually with worms or small livebait, mepps spinners are also effective. Havent got a 5lber yet though.

I would have thought an ounce of lead and a small live bait is okay for a gentle under arm swing but a bit much to "chuck" with a pellet waggler rod.

I would only recommend using float rod with a float, I have caught loads of big perch by float fishing for them...They can't resist a nice fat juicy Brandling, remember those chaps? :)

I have a drennan series 7 specialist Avon 1.5tc and that's great for perch I fish the Derwent for them and I think they fight amazing, I once was watching a kingfisher landing down stream only to turn to round to find my rod being pulled in by a 2lb perch haha.
If you think 1.5 is too much they do a 1.25tc as well top rods so happy I got mine

Mark, when i'm trotting for barbel, chub etc and they stop responding to a moving bait I often change the float for a small bomb and leger for them. I've had lots of barbel (to just under 10lb) etc using the float rod for legering. I usualy use a avenger or drennan im8 specimine float rod.
