Good question- dont know the answer

Deadly is one way to describe what could happen.

The loss of an eye is tragic in any circumstance.

if possible, ship back until you can get hold of the elastic, do this at an angle though or else your top set can get pulled off.

get hold of the elastic and pull for the break. As paul says, make sure you do this underwater, if thats not possible look the other way or you can end up with a pole float bristle in your eye

Good thing about the pole is you can try pulling initialy from every diferent angle, dont forget to try putting an extra section or two on so you can also pull (push) away from you, this often does the trick

Beware of holding the elastic if it's one of the stronger types. You'll likely end up with a float stem or bristle embedded in your hand... I like to wrap it round a landing net handle or similar andturn my back when pulling for a break. Watch out also for breaking your pole - they will only snap line of 2-3lbs breaking strain safely.

It canwork to set up a leger rod with strong line and a large hook, cast and snag the pole rig and pull that to break the hook length. Failing that, take a wetsuit and go in for it...

Tench.

Try using your landing net to shield you from the back lash from the break - you should be able to gauge where the elastic is going to come backto you,

and ideally its best to hold the pole so it comes back at an angle and not directly towards you. Hope that makes some sense.
