Have a look at the korum range I have used the original model since it came out the only addition was a chest strap but I think the new models have this already fitted. Some of the old fox royal are good and you can get them on a deal sometimes.

Of all the large fishing rucksacs i have tried the Nash Nomad 55 has been the most comfy, it was superb...mine can get loads of gear into it.

They stopped making them though and the replacement just aint in the same league........theres a second hand one on you know where ;)

Look in an ex-army shop if you have one near you.

I have used military type rucksacs and they are made for different situations, i agree the SF is a lot better than most of the **** the angling manufacturers turn out but we (anglers) need the outer pockets more than Military type sacs.

Problem with the angling world is that something good comes out then they change it! usually reducing the manufacturing costs but they tell us its "improved"...........they must think we are all stupid!

Best of all was the Fox Royale Rover. Think it was 45lt in size and was an excellent bit of kit with tons of pockets. Problem is they don't make them anymore. :(

Dont know what sort of fishing you do. But regarding a ruckbag be carefull if you are like me and use a rod quiver with a rucksack you may want to check to see if both the bag and the quiver will fit on your back.
Some of the large ruckbags do not allow plenty of space to allow this, not sure if its an inconvenience to you? but you could end up having to carry the rod quiver in your hand by the handle so be careful try before you buy.

Bertie the outer pockets you can add to the Predator is exactly why it is suited for anglers, you buy what you need and simply zip them in or attach to the webbing.

Makes it damn expensive, are the pockets big enough to carry anything constructive or just ok for a wooly hat and gloves.?

I have similar ruckas up the loft that i tried for fishing and found them not quite what i wanted....never tried the Pred though.

Even military gear gets sexy names now eh, can you imagine the **** take off a live enemy if captured "ah a SF predator eh?".......all always thought "Bergan" sounded sexy enough ;)

These are good - very solid bit of army kit ...

ORIGINAL BRITISH ARMY ISSUE 30 LITRE PATROL RUCKSACK/BAG | eBay

Steve,
I'm not sure if you've got that particular rucksack mixed up with another type of issue item, because they are renowned for being utter rubbish. Put it this way, I've recently handed back my issue kit. They aren't too fussy about every last item going back. That type of rucksack was one of the first items I handed in.
Even the better stuff than that is often replaced with privately bought items by those in the mob.

Sam,

I have one and its almost exactly the same as another rucksack which is being sold by a well known tackle manufacturer albeit the price for the "fishing" rucksack is somewhat inflated.

Has served me well for my day ticket trips and also for when I have my annual trip to the river Severn.

Guess its horses for courses and ultimately to some extent you get what you pay for - Korum are excellent and produce quality gear but for me I am happy with the rucksack I have but bow to your knowledge "in action" so to speak.

Most of my fishing is done from a rucksack. I use, and can highly recommend the Gardner barbel / specialist rucksack. Well designed, well-built and if you shop around, not too expensive. Not sure on the capacity, but I think it is in the ballpark you are talking about.

Gardner barbel / specialist rucksack.
