Do I need shock leader

I am using the wychwood spods that remain closed until you strike on them to release the groundbait. I have a 5lb Fox Spod rod and wychwood reel (all from ebay!).

I am using the wychwood spod/marker braid and the groundbait is pigeon mix/hemp, not going mad on the range as my main rods are only 2 1/4 TC, but do I need a shock leader??? If so, suggestions??

whats ur braid strength? 20? 40? 60? if ur using between 40 - 60 you can go staright through, 20s a bit low really. Mind ur fingers though and wear a glove or fingerstall or it will cut through your finger like a saw!

I use 10lb berkley mono with a shockleader of 16lb just four turns onto my reel, just dont like braid /forum/smilies/confused_smiley.gif

don't use braid in your spod use 10lb mono with a n stronger leader. goes further and has a little stretch to help you out
