How's fishing in the Themes estuary?

I am an occasional fisherman of the Themes estuary, usually from the Southend area, peir, beach and boat.
I am planning a trip to visit the peir for a bit of tiddler bashing and wonder if anybody can tell me how it's fishing at the moment and what's working...?

Hi Jeff there are plenty of flounders showing at the shore end of the pier to ragworm and maddies and i think some garfish have shown up at the pier head but i have not had this confirmed
thornback rays are turning up in better numbers every day now from the boats
