Drop off indicators without leccy bite alarms

Is there any reason why I shouldn't fish using drop off indicators without bite alarms provided that I keep my eyes glued to them?

I normally float fish or wobble deads for pike but want to try a couple of untapped stillwaters soon, most likely ledgering at range with pop ups.

I can't see anything wrong with it in principal but thought i'd just ask to make sure.

Any info greatly appreciated fellas, cheers.

No reason why not at all, I do most of my pike fishing without alarms.

You may however feel more confident if you mark the level of the bobbin against the bank stick once the bait is in position. Just roll a rubber band up to the level of the bobbin/ indicator.

That way you can quickly see the smallest movement should you glance away for a moment and are wondering 'has that dropped?'.

If weighted and set up properly (to show drop backs) it's no different to watching a couple of floats.
