Hello everyone,

I am looking to trap and eat as may as these troublesome Signal Crayfish as I can (with the support of the EA of course). I have recently moved to Gloucestershire, just north of Bourton on the Water (River Windrush), can anyone advise where I should search for these little blighters? the closer to home - the better!

Thanks in anticipation!

The EA web site has loads of information on the whereabouts of them, try searching their web site or contact them directly.

If I remember correctly, you'll need a licence for pots / cages.

Just out of interest, do you need a licence to catch them on bait and line?

Can I suggest that you first contact your County Wildlife Trust and ask to speak to their river ecologists on where the populations of native crayfish are.

Distinguishing between the various non-native crayfish species is not as easy as it seems and if you trap them from where there are no known native crayfish it will make you job a lot easier.

Biggest cray I've seen was over 10" long and 1 1/2" across the body with claws like a lobster, fortunately an otter made a meal of it!!!
