What sort of Fishing Gear have you inherited?

This will allow anglers to give you a more accurate and informative response to your question.

Welcome to FM

If you're never fished, take your tackle to a local fisheries or tackle shop and ask what rod you have, float or tip
Look on the web for images so you canlook on YouTube for videos of fishing

Hi McKay welcome to FM.

The first thing you need to do before you try to use your fishing tackle is buy a rod licence from your post office or off the web for the coming year.

Then get someone at your local tackle shop to advise you about setting up your tackle plus what fisheries are near where you live and what tackle and bait you will need to take with you to fish them.

New line might be a good start.

Lines get damaged and deteriorate over time so this will probably need to be replaced.

Walk the bank and talk to other anglers, ask questions, the majority of guys and girls are approachable if you ask in a friendly polite manner. If they don't give you a reply they aren't worth bothering with anyway and most likely aren't very good.

Read all you can and try and get hold of a decent fishing magazine, Improve Your Coarse Fishing is not a bad one hand has lots of useful advice. I'd leave the likes of Coarse Angling Today and others well alone for now as besides being slightly more advanced they have writers who specialise in one species or another.

Keep asking questions on here, even the most basic question will get a response if asked politely.

Don't listen to all the blurb about fishing being difficult it isn't. Keep it simple and don't over complicate things. Basic baits, maggots worms bread, are all top class baits that will catch fish if you are quiet around the waterside.

Enjoy it and the countryside around you
