Recently I finished Barrie Rickards' excellent biography of **** Walker and it inspired me to reread some of Walker's books.

I managed to get hold of **** Walker's Trout Fishing (republished 1997 and copies still availablefor £8). I was struck by how original his ideas were and the clarity with which he expressed them.

I think Walker was the outstanding British angler of the last century for his contribution to both coarse and trout fishing. His articles don't seem at all dated.

I have just spent time reading a number of issues of the magazine: "Creel" from the 60s.

Amongst numerous articles by Walker, I also note one by yourself Keith.

It was interesting in that Walker was known more for his coarse fishing exploits than fly fishing. Yet he openly admitted that he spent the vast majority of his angling life with a fly rod in his hand.
