Fishing yesterday I caught a carp on meat, and after returning it I rebaited and recast to the same spot - I had just put the rod in the rest when the line tore off and another carp was on.
This is the first time this has ever happened to me were I've literally put the rod on the rest and a fish has took the bait.
How often has it happened to others

Ecclesfield on saturday,
I cast feeder out as that was set up in rod bag. Started unpacking float rod and within 30seconds rod was dancing around on its stand.. It was a great start to a great ay. But never had a fish first cast first minute! i thought id onocked it with my foot at first!

I posted a while ago in another thread that I cast a hair rigged hook attached to a funnel web to a near island on a quiet pit (a gentle underarm lob) and before I could settle the rod in it's rest and set the runner it was almost pulled out of my hand by what proved to be a quite large carp - not even enough time for the web to hit the deck (about 4') let alone dissolve.
Jerry
PS A fish a chuck can often be instant as soon as the pellet hits the water when the carp are competing - no time to rest the rod.

It happens all the time at Clattercote on the pellet or baggin wag, and at other venues when the carp are going mad in the margins:D:D:D

This is how I landed my PB carp a while back...

...I'd had a stinker of a morning - got up late, left all my bait at home, broke various pieces of tackle etc. etc. Anyway, finally got my rod setup and baited up the method feeder (with bait I had to stop and buy all over again  ) cast it out, put my rod on it's rest and tightened the line a little and all of a sudden it bent round like something possessed! I must've been fishing for all of about 7 seconds... a beautiful mirror carp and that was the start of a non-stop day

...strange how a bad day can turn into a really good one really quickly

Yes, this has happened to me a few times. I always think it is a little bit lucky. Exactly the right place at the right time.......

The quickest one I ever had was when fishing a loco Commercial lake, I had just caught one and had unhooked it and dropped the rig in the water, then just as I returned the fish it grabbed the bait that was just touching the water and hooked itself again, it was a matter of seconds between bites on the same mini boilie.

Mind you at that lake the fish are well known for trying to clime up the anglers line.

I arrived at a local council pit to find my favourite swim was empty but there was a chap on the one to my right. I cheerily asked this fellow how it was going, he mumbled something about it being harder than a porn star's pecker and sat scowling like a dog with a stick up its bum.

I set up a waggler and sweetcorn and threw it out, basically just to see if any more shotting were needed. The float didn't even settle, it went under as though rolling off a table.

The culprit which must have taken on the drop was a tench, circa 3lbs. Chummy next door shot me a long, lingering look of absolute malevolence (give a choice, he'd probably just have shot me - he looked the sort).

My big beaming smile only wound him up to even greater heights.

An early example of ro(a)d rage, methinks.

Have a great day, all :)

Happens a lot when you use floats mi lud.baits often never even hit the deck.
Sometimes barbel fishing with a feeder its often the case that you feather the feeder down onto the riverbed and its away in an instant, never even try to get the rod on the idleback.
