Without fear? there are at least five prosecutions pending in the Northwest to my certain knowledge.

A certain amount of fear but not much of a deterrent imho

No blog entry for a while Eric, have they started spawning yet now the temps up a bit?

Oh I've well finished piking now, I caught my first tench of the year yesterday, just looking for a bit of time to write it up.

So if 1200 quid is now the going rate for killing a fish, the EEs better watch out on the Thames, the cormorant problem can now be defined in monetary terms and the otters and even Eric's pike are costing millions with every meal.
Of course it's not because the fish was a spawn filled Salmon is it?... and yet the EA still issue elver licenses. Double standards abound. Sigh. Thankfully I'm not as musical as PB! :wh

If I wasn't such a pretty decent angler and undentable optimist, I'd despair (or leave for Thailand)...

Went to Thailand once on a corporate jolly, flown out of India by a man I had been advising who lived in and ran a major travel firm based in Kathmandu as a "Thank you" for services rendered - he, a couple of his senior managers and me.

He sent no less than three different "ladies" (females, at least) up to my room in our top-end hotel after I had been notably (and worryingly, for him) uncharmed by the, in a few cases, very lovely many who had crawled all over us in the bar(s) earlier.

Terrible, possibly racist, but certainly possibly horribly true quote from a travel book, Swimming To Cambodia by Spalding Gray (1987), though the line might not be originally his, that I read several years later:

Love to have seen the country a hundred years ago, though.

Berlin was, pre wall take down, the same (Belize too with their 'clean health certificates'), even the hardy seen it all before crowd sic of the sex trade plying their trade in every corner back street bar. Amazed me some even managed to spend all their weekly wages in a single weekend and they were then just 50p a go all nighters, same price as a stein of schultheiss or a can of coke over east checkpoint Charlie.
