This is an impregnated split cane rod, which if it is in good condition and in the original bag is worth quite a bit of money.

Sharps stopped making split cane ca 1972. I owned a Scottie which was made in 1963.

Lovely rod and the 'Bentley' of its time for quality. If its been kept properly - hung up, not standing on the floor so its taken a set - and it is sympathetically renovated if it needs it (which may mean stripping down all the way and regluing) then it is most certainly worth a bob or ten and more. Specialist aution job that one, not for Fleabay ! Big envy....

Now, the Hardy's reel of the right vintage to go with it.... *sigh* what a pair that would make down the right river.

The Sharp's gear was considered by many during the sixties and seventies, as high quality gear. Ron's spot on, in good nick it will be worth a tidy sum.

I used to have Sharp's carp rods and Avon's. Bill Keal well known carper of that era, reckoned they were every bit on par with Hardy tackle. He told me at an Angling Show in Sheffield-praise indeed.

hi Nick, yes I was dragged kicking and screaming into computer land, and digital camera's by a certain fellow who wears a silly hat. Getting to grips with digital was far easier than these confounded machines. I will get there I just hope you regular guy's don't become too irritated with me. I think I have something to contribute [ I hope so].

As far as the '' Northern Group'' I tend to think not, it's an eerie question you ask Nick. Only a couple of days ago Ron and I spent the best part of one afternoon trying to work out who if any, were still around and kicking let alone fishing.

Our conclusions could be best described as depressing. I'm sure Ron will have brought you up to speed regarding Eric H.

By the way do you ever hear anything about Ken Morris these days?

I still have all my old Nikon's, but sadly not the old Strat Thanks for the welcome aboard Mate.

And as you know by now, all is not well with Eric who has been taken into Kalow hospital from the home of special care with serious complications.

I have started a thread on this under General.

Its sometime since I heard from Ken, I have a letter from him somewhere when I was doing some research for the NAC, it was Eric whom put me in touch with him. wecome to the digital age though mate, I must admit I too was dragged into it screaming and kicking. Shame you no longer have the old strat, we could have had a jam togther./forum/smilies/smile_smiley.gif

Thanks for that Colin. This prices by Scottie look decidedly reasonable to the point where I might decide to buy a blank and knock up a rod myself for old times sake.

That will please old Peter
