its certainly worrying what should be done in my opinium is to remove the eggs from breeding birds to start with then start to cull them

What I found really really really interesting in this report is the way in which it demonstrates the blatant lies told by the RSPB five or six years ago at the time of the start of the "Black Plague":

Cormorants were not increasing in numbers,

The Cormorant population was in fact endangered by the loss of sandeels as prey.

Cormorants were not coming inland because of their excessive numbers cleaning out the sea.

It was not a case of excess and growing Cormorant population being forced to search inland for food away from the sea after having cleaned it out.

For all these reasons the poor dear things were at grave risk of a collapse in population and numbers, and should not be culled or shot at any price.

But..... with no effective unified angling body to speak for us they got away with it. And still get away with it.

And now the news that the Salmon and Trout Association prefer to take the gravy train of charitable status rather than join FACT.... Oh well. There's another chance gone. As ever.

it does'nt need to be another chance gone, we don't need the Salmon and Trout nobs we need to use this to our advantage not give up. maybe the S&T Ass went there own way because they had doubts we would or could ever stick together. We make up the bulk of anglers in this country, we can still be a formidable voice all it takes is belief and a will to do it. sadly to many of us hang our heads at the first sign of a set back.

Bill,

Whilst the majority of voices may be in the Coarse world, the money lies with the S&T A, just take a look at the disparity in annual membership fees(?)

I would dearly like to see a successful United Angling Association (not though a governing body) but we are now beginning to see the realities of 'real life' entering into the fray.

Where do you think the Sea anglers will stand if there is a call for a National license fee for Sea Angling?

iirc bill oddie doesn't particularly like cormorants when they are inland. he's actually relatively pro-anglers
