I have one and it's ok but imo deffo not worth the rrp. I paid £120 for mine and i'd say that's as much as it's worth.

I'd just like to firstly say I've not used one, and therefore i have no opinion, but the feedback I have received is that they aren't as good as the drennan super specialist barbel rods (now discontinued) and the price is over inflated by the name...

I had a pair of the super specialist barbel rods and I think the blank of the bowler rod is a far better quality one. One thing that does gripe me about the bowler rod is the fact that the reel seat isn't a fuji !

I quite like his hats, too. Anyone here worn one? I hear they look 'spiffing' with a horn-handled brolley. :)

In answer to the question; no, not used one and (making a large assumption here) would think anything 'named' will be more expensive as a result.

An isotope and fitting+padded rod sleeve, seems like good value to me.So what if it has not got a fivers worth of fuji reel seat. Its a better rod than a shimano i paid more than £2oo for.I hope to catch plenty on my M Bowler rod this season coming.

I think the old Drennans are better, the Drennan Barbel Power Twin Tip is a lovely bit of kit and is hard to find now, I should know ....

As said put a 'name' on the butt and they want/need more ££££'s

Disagree, the old blanks are better IMO. And how can any Tackle Tart cope with a no name reel seat is beyond me.

One thing I have noticed is that the drennan duos go for ridiculous money on eBay!

Hey, i've only stated my opinion after having both of them. I think the blank on the Bowler version is far better. I don't give a monkeys about the name it's the rod i'm interested in. I think the bowler version is let down by the fittings...reel seat and the guides...and of course the price.

The new one's mate. Well I've gone and purchased and to me at seems like a lovely rod. The only gripe I have is that there is no hook keeper. But that's no big deal.

And that's the rub, once you have gone and purchased anything the justification in purchasing it become even stronger.

Human nature.

I wouldn't say any stronger. I'm sure most people consider more than one different rod, and make an informed choice by that. Of course if its something you own unless its complete rubbish you're going to be naturally biased, its the same with anything review based, its all opinionated.

Dunno about his rods but he sells a barbel bait (whatever that means) and that is around 11 nicker per kilo.

I don't blame the bloke for putting his snout in the trough but don't expect many sensible people to buy his products.

Martin Bowler rods are sold by Drennan not Martin Bowler. The bait with his name on is a Richworth product and sold by them.£11 a kilo is about right for a quality bait from Richworth. He earns a living as a full time angling journalist plus a bit of sponsorship from these companies. It cannot be an easy life fishing most days of the week in all weathers.Lol......
