Had an exeat Saturday so set off for the Ribble near Ribchester. Setting up as usual I set up my landing net and dipped it in the river. Set everything else up and cast out caster and maggot into a fairly fast flowing river. To my joy I got a good bite straight away and was obviously into a big fish, probably a good barbel. As I played the fish I looked to get my landing net ready only to realise that it had gone! As I frantically searched up and down while trying not to loose the fish it started to dawn on me that the current had gently drawn my net away and it was probably somewhere in Preston Dock by now. Luckily the fish came off as the thought of 'tailing' a barbel did not appeal.
I manged to redeem my dayout by getting my wife to bring out a spare net but I'm now trying to console myslef to the loss of £70 worth of tackle. Having steeled myself to a new purchase I'm thinking of the Fox stalking handle; any views?
