Just been looking at some beachcasting outfits on ebay, the ones with the green seat boxes, Fladen rods & Lineaeffe reels. My question is are these outfits any good, only £59.95 + postage? I won't be sea fishing very often & don't want to spend loads but don't want rubbish.

If its the linneaffe multipliers, I wouldn't. Budget multipliers are often difficult to control, not as smooth on the cast (leading to the dreaded birds nest) etc.

If price is an issue it would be better to go for good quality 2nd hand gear rather than poor quality new gear. Sea angling puts a great deal of stress on rods and reels. a good quality multiplier will last for years, even second hand on the other hand a cheap multiplier can be destroyed in months or immediately if you throw it against the rocks after your umpteenth consecutive birds-nest.

I have found the multipliers with magnetic brakes the easiest to master and you can easily reduce the braking effect as your competence increases.

Or, why not go for a fixed spool reel, Okuma do some at a reasonable price.
