Hello everyone. For the last 31 year I have been a fanatical sea angler but years back I used to do a bit river\pond fishing which I used to love ecspecially in rivers for barbel and chub. Now the sea gears all been selt and all freshwater gear has been bought. Over the coming weeks I will be asking some questions(probabaly stupid ones but please bear with me). First one when fishing over hemp for barbel and chub which hookbait is best to use. Any advice greately appreciated.

On the question of a hookbait over hemp (in my experience) meat, pellet and cheese are my summer favourites and more selective for larger fish with maggot and/or caster in colder months or when the going's tough.
Hemp is a great puller and keeps them pre-occupied, rooting around in the swim and I can't think of anything much that wouldn't score as a hookbait laid over the top once you've got 'em there
