Philip Henscher on something we've all seen a lot of over the past decade and a half - so-called anonymity and the effect of disconnection from real-world reality and consequences that it has had on many, making the real world a far more selfish, cynical, untrusting, unpleasant and sometimes suddenly unexpectedly violent place in which to live.
The bigger a community gets, the easier and more virulent anonymity becomes | Philip Hensher | Comment is free | The Guardian
Speaking of Space Princesses, I saw one the other evening on the TV in a rather disturbing documentary called America's Stoned Kids, a look at how decriminilization of maryjane in Colorado has spawned a generation of thoroughly messed-up adolescents and a new breed of entrepreneurs getting into the hi-power pot-growing industry. One of the latter was a highly articulate upbeat ex-banker, a non-consumer of his own product (probably a Napa Valley wine man), who, post 2008, after a dozen years in banking, was looking to "invest in a recession proof business", had done so after the Colorado decrimilzation law and seen his business explode. Yeah, and the still-developing minds of a lot of teenagers.
Selfish private good-lifer dreams, real world consequences.
