Can someone please explain why reels are often described as having X + Y bearings, eg 10+1.
Why are there 2 numbers? Is it say, 10 on the spool and 1 for the handle? Thanks

My ABU multiplier has three minus one bearings after I took it apart to sort a birds nest and had a bearing left over when I put it back together again. :D

(I've consulted the schematics and still can't find a home for it yet the reel runs fine without it.)

A simple but a good question.

I always thought it referred to the number of roller (normal bearings) and the number of needle face type bearings.
