The officers of the SAA merged with other groups, most notably the ACA, to form the ATr

NASA, National Association of Specialist Anglers, were the original group and when that folded it eventually led to the forming of the SAA.

Not quite correct that Judas about NASA folding. If you really want to know how the SAA came about I'll tell people from fist-hand knowledge, as I was at every meeting running up to and after it's formation.

I was just thinking, I was an old NASA member how come I was never contacted by the organisers of this 'new' specialist group when JP seems to have answered my question?

I was an old NASA member for almost its entire life.
Certainly it was a very good group of like minded specialist anglers who produced a regular magazine that has yet to be bettered even with todays technology and whiz kid anglers.
I often read my old copies of Specialist Angler and remember how they offered me answers to my various challenges at the waterside.

The Angling Trust will never produce such a magazine of that I am certain.

I came across it while looking for a safe patternoster rig , all the shennanigans appear to have been going on just as I was starting fishing again - sitting by the side of the canal ( not catching ) blissfully unaware of the great conspiracies in whose Machieavellian schemes I was about to become a mere pawn - this goes all the way to the top I tell you.

Still in the link I posted there is a PDF all about fish handling and safe rigs that might be a good idea for a newbie to read.

Yep and 60,000+ hardcopies were distributed nationally as well through clubs, SP groups, shops, etc. All paid for out of Angler's licence fee money by the EA.

The first 30K run was written and drawn up by the Specialist Anglers Conservation Group (SACG) Chris Burt being the principle author and main driver for it, with input from the rest of the National group and all the SP group's who were members of the SACG.
Re-written and expanded when the SAA formed through the "merger" of SACG and NASA to form it. Again Chris took on the task of its principle author and driver.
Hey and guess what all the people involved were volunteers, no one got paid for any work they did for either NASA, SACG or the SAA.

Mick agree totally Specialist Angler is still one of the best Mags ever produced and none of the contributors to it were paid for articles, they contributed articles purely for the love of the sport and the desire to share with fellow NASA members.

Apologies BD just remember my membership of NASA expiring and when I came to renew it had gone and morphed into something else.

Agreed on the NASA mag, still got quite a few and they are a great resource even today, some brilliant writers and next to no product placement .
