I'm looking at purchasing a new rubber/latex landing net, but not sure which make to get. Loads of reviews say the Korum is the best, yet a lot of anglers say the actual net is brill, but it's let down by the spreader block, which is often prone to breaking/snapping. What would you recommend?

Buy the net, if it fails then get on to Korum. Whilst it's sometimes worth bearing internet reviews from random users in mind, they aren't the be all and end all. There are a lot of careless folks and plenty of folks that abuse kit.

I have quite a bit of kit that has been ignored or called worse than ****. I couldn't care less. The prime example of a good piece of kit that gets a regular (and poorly justified) online slating is the Drennan Super Specialist landing net pole. If everyone chose to believe the online vitriol, no one would ever buy one.

With the Korum net, the biggest problem is that there aren't too many rubber alternatives out there. The only contender I can think of is the Fox Predator Rubber Spoon.

I've been using the 30" spoon for barbel, pike and carp for a couple of years now (not a lover of the 42" triangular that rarely leaves the garage) without any problems. However the block did have a loose grub screw when I first got it and a carp almost swam off with the net - once tightened I have had no problems.

The 30" Korum spoon's a great net. Personally, I find it hard to believe that the spreader's a weak point - it looks made to last. TBH it's the first piece of bad press I've ever come across.

The thing is - in addition to what Sam said - people will rush to slate what they see as a dodgy product but are much less likely to pass comment if they're pleased with it. When I was looking for a diesel estate car, it seemed from all the internet whinging like none of the buggers were any good. In the end I just went out and drove a few and formed my own opinion.

Ive got two 22" Middy Latex nets, both are 2years old, this year one has lost both screws from the block (easily replaced btw) the other still rock solid.

Biggest fish I managed to fit into one was a ten pound plus Salmon.

Just wish they made them 6" deeper........... grrrrrrr ))-:

Hope this helps :D

The only spreader blocks I have known to fail are the metal one piece cast ones the threaded section snaps off from the spreader I have several nets and have never had a Korum net let me down

To get a prospective of reality and not turn this into a commercial perhaps its best to say what nets have let you down, and those that have not.
In my experience nets last a long time if not abused.

My nets since I started,
I still have my original circa 1954 aluminium 18" folding net frame.
My original alloy and steel 42" Efgeeco Pike net, old knotted mesh replaced.
Hardy Sea Trout net with the wading pole handle and original knotted mesh.
Fastnet Pike net professional model (landed more fish than I can count but still perfect).
2 off Middy 22" latex pan nets, of which the round one lost both screws from the spreader block.

I have never had a net or block break on any of the above nets and all are still available for use except the antique which has been retired, .........like me :D

I have two nets, one a 42" for carp, the other a 50" for cats, both are cheap nets from ebay and have never let me down, the 50" has landed cats to 64lb and the 42" ive had a 54lb cat in. never had a block break but then i allways disconnect the arms to lift the fish so the block or pole is not under pressure..

Exactly the same with my korum barbel scoop, brilliant net just need to keep an eye on the set screws.

Mesh is plenty deep enough

What's wrong with this thread? There have been a couple of posts made, which have bumped the thread, but aren't visible. The latest is from aebitim, one yesterday from Steve Shaw 3. Bizarrely, I can see the replies in the Topic Review as I type this reply.

Having just posted, I can't view my own post or page two of the thread. It shows in the thread review, the forum index shows that a post has been made. Still can't see anything though. I guess that we should brace ourselves for database problems and forum crashes.

It all looks fine from this end, but we will monitor the situation.

FM,
the only way I can view your post is by replying. Page 2 of the thread can't be opened to view.

The posts look fine when viewing - 15 or 16 posts to date.

But when adding a new post (like this one) there are posts listed below (scroll down) which are not included in the original view?

(Think that makes sense)

All still looks fine at this end - whether viewing or replying - we can't seem to see what the problem is.
