Martin whilst I'd agree with you wholeheartedly that water meadows are of critical importance to lowland rivers, lets not forget the govt you were part of did little or anything to protect them. They added to the rot mate! They accepted without question the NHBF estimation of needing to build 4.4 million houses over a 20 year period. Presser even saying the South of England would need to build 3 new large towns able to accommodate 300k+ of people living there.

It totally underestimated the number of accession countries peoples would enter the UK. 900K Polish at the last count and a grand total of all around 1.25 million. All of which needed housing somewhere and the vast majority being drawn to the south.

Whilst you may have now done a Saul on the road to Damascus, which is better late than never I guess, the rot is in and sorry to say the pressure will only increase until people stand up and say the UK is FULL, not because they don’t like people from abroad coming here, but because we DO NOT have the land, natural resources or services to sustain the 65 million here already. Not if we want to balance the environment with the population present without degrading totally the former for the latter.
Time is up and the tipping point has now been reached, hard choices have to be made!
