Hi guys and gals, did any of you read the angling times with the new british catfish record of 132lb, what a whopper. I`m off to the secret location for a 24 hour session in 4 weeks, might be 48hrs if all goes well i.e the fishing, cant wait. Has anyone else been there (the secret location)? I will give no clues but I will let you all know how I get on but I feel that I will smash my PB`s. WAHOOOOOOO

Yeah. It didn't seem like much of a secret to me?! I'm a nice boy so I won't name it but it's already in the 'public domain'. /forum/smilies/dont_tell_anyone_smiley.gif This place hasn't shyed away from publicity before though.

Might catch a record sturgeon whilst you're there too/forum/smilies/surprised_smiley.gif

Er, why's that?Lining the pockets of yet another law-breaking, greedy fishery owner - can't think of anything I'd rather NOT do!!!! /forum/smilies/disappointed_smiley.gif

Hasn't the place been investigated by the EA or Cefas yet?

I did read them this week..... in ASDA of course. Difficult to find though as someone has taken to hiding all the Times under Gardeners weekly, same every time I look. I, of course, dont put them back on top.

I thought the bit with Fred Crouch was good, very refreshing, but cant remember if that was in yours or t'other either. All the adverts get in the way and make it difficult for me to diferentiate. maybe just the beginings of dementia.

What happened to "The Specialists" ? That was worth a scan and then it just stopped.

Would you have put the big pussy in had it been offered?

Where that particular venue is concerned if anyone had reported a fish that big to us in the last few months we'd have used it to expose the fishery for what it is. Unfortunately, no one has..... Yet.

Pretty sure officialdom has been sniffing around the place but it'ssame old story of how do you prove wrongdoing? Having said that, seeing as the biggest 'natural' cats are onlytopping out ataround 70-80lb it wouldn't take toomuch effort to scientifically demonstrate that a fish of 132lb was as bent as a nine bob note! If there was the commitment, which I'm beginning to suspect that there isn't. Then there are those people who know about what's going on butaren't willing tograss up the culprits, either because they're profitting in some wayor because they're too scared. Or they don't care....

Yes, unfortunately, The Specialists was dropped. A shame I agree. But I've heard Matt recently had a result on the Idle so I'm sure he'll be typing away furiously as we speak.... Top dangling that man!

Tut, tut! Insular attitude that Tone./forum/smilies/surprised_smiley.gif

Hell, if everyone everywhere thought like that then we'd have nothing to write aboutand how would the sport be doing with no angling publications to compound no angling on tv?

Share and share alike. What are you worried about anyway? You've always got your private stretch of the Trent to fall back on if everywhere else becomes busy!/forum/smilies/wink_smiley.gif

I think Mark that The Specialists fell vistim to management's feeling that there was too much specimen content in the paper. I must admit that I sympathised with that view. Big fish anglers are a minority of our readership. Personally, I'd like to see the likes of Terry and Matt still writing for us (which they are), together with other experienced anglers, but with less emphasis on big fish and more on how inspiring and fun fishing is.

People are welcome to submit articles at any time, or to ring me to discuss such (01733 465673). But wehave set the standards of words and photos very high, almost on a par with what full-time staff can produce. You'll have noticed (I hope)that those who do contribute to AT are bothexception writers and superb photographers.

Sounds great to me that Greg.

Actually, Matt asked ME not to mention to anyone where he was fishing about 3 years ago, and I never have. Its a place I have known and fished since I was a boy.

If he were to give it publicity now I would be less than impressed.

You sound a strange man to me Tone.... The 'I'm all right Jack' attitude isn't thatbecoming. But not exactly surprising given your circumstances. But, contrary to what you might think, I'm not looking to start an argument. Each to their own I guess. I just beliecve in sharing. Not everyone does though. I fell out with some of the presidents of the CSG when I suggested helping the local club by publicising the chubbing on the Welland in AT. Talk about red rag to a bull!!!!

I've no idea whether Matt will be writing about it, just assumed he might. Guess it's his decision and if he changes his mind, well, that's his perogative. Haven't you ever changed your mind about anything before? Or is it just Yorkshiremen who plainly speak their mind in the expectation that people will do exactlywhat they want? Like I said, very strange. It's only bloody fishing. There are new swims to discover round every corner and no one could fish them all in ten lifetimes. Why's a bit of publicity such a problem? Sounds small-minded to me. Whenever a favourite stretch or swim of mine is discovered I've always found new ones to fall in love with... Then a few years later when everyone's forgotten that peivce in the paper they're quiet once again.

"A strange man"........ thats one of the nicest things you have ever called me Greg, thanks. There are things I cant post Greg, lets just leave it at that.

Its nothing to do with Jack being all right, though he is as it happens.

No probs Tone. There are plenty of things that don't belong on here. Nuff said.

I do get frustrated by the publicity issue though. But, being a hack I would say that wouldn't I? As for Matt's fish, he probably had no intention of using it. I'll have to persuade him to go down the Thames again and give me another kicking on the carp.

There be monsters there there be....
