Hi HM,

They often come up on Ebay although larger ones are a bit of a rarity.

If price isn't too much of an issue these still make some lovely stuff...

Fishing Basket - Products - The Somerset Willow Company

I can only see the one size although they made one for me a couple of years ago (which is superb) and it's big... you can have one built to your own custom size too if you wish.

Good luck finding one :)

I loved my old basket, creaks and all, but it developed an alarming lean and was swapped for a Brennan and Hickman fibreglass box (remember those?)

Yeah they didnt half creak mate but they were comfy.

If i was after another i would ask for one made round like half moon shape at the back so it wont sway about when you walk .

It always makes me smile when I use my basket on a session and I can guarantee i'll hear fondly reminiscent comments from other passing anglers such as "ahhh they don't make 'em like that anymore".

If only they knew... ;)

Oh yes I remember wicker, and going home with an Ar#e looking like a waffle :eek:mg:

A piece of foam in a carrier bag was the antidote to "basket bum", Merv; not pretty, but effective. Sadly, the plastic sweated up one's 'arris something terrible, and inevitably caused a certain amount of spottiness in the same area! It beat lifting one buttock at a time to get some relief, though.

Well there is another industry for the Somerset Levels.

Seem to remember passing the bundles of willow whips while driving over that way in the 60s and 70s.

Beautiful basket tho, craftsman made and something to be proud to own.

Creaks, squeaks and rutted behind, I remember them well :eek:mg:

I have to admit I take a cushion to avoid the dreaded basket bum but I welcome the creaks and squeaks...

They tend to mask the ones my own joints make :eek:mg: :)

I'm having a bit of a clear out at the moment and I've just sold a wormy old basket for silly money on ebay. As their is clearly a market for these things I'll be listing another (much nicer) one as soon as I get down to where it is buried in my spare room.

I never did get on with the things.
