Looking for an economical alternative to expensive boilies?

Try Brussels sprouts - boil them, but not as much as your Nan did.

They can be threaded on to pva tape to make a nice stringer and the can be complemented by pva bags of peas.

Dont forget to freeze any leftovers from the Sunday roast - they kids may not like them, but the carp love them.

Also, a big advantage to using this approach is that you will pick off the vegetarian fish that the guys using HNV baits are missing out on. The veggy carp tend to be less bloated and a lot leaner then the boily fed fatties, so be prepared for some fast runs.

I can't begin to tell you how many fish I have caught on this method. Go for it and let us know how you get on.

Sprouts are super bait, they are at their most effective when you loose feed pea shingle, especially on a gravelly bottom.

Glug them in mint sauce to give you that edge on pressured waters!

Or inject them with mint jelly for long term attraction . . . . . . .

Or, alternatively, a "pea medusa" formed by threading peas onto floss and looping into an appetising ball . . . . . . tied onto the hair rig

Or Jersey potatoes lightly boiled and cubed and soaked in gravy.

Excellent used critically balanced with Lurpak.

Here a money saving tip
place plastic back in the margin on your local lake or pond - anglers tend to throw bait in the margins at when they leave - simply turn up after angler have left and retrieve the plastic bags - with luck you'll have enough bait for a week or two
Simply dry out the soggy maggots, caster, sweet corn and meat - you can save money here by using a hand dryer in a public loo

One added bonus of using sprouts is that if you fish the water a few days later the fish will easy to find due to the constant bubbles coming up from them...

"Be prepared for some fast runs"
Is that before or after you land them?
